CHALLENGES OF CONCEPTUAL ABERRATION IN INTERCULTURAL DISCOURSE

Abstract:  The paper attempts to justify the term “kontseptual’naya aberatsia” (conceptual aberration) to name a cognitive stage of new/foreign concept cognition. As cognitive process depends on both national and individual conceptual world a foreign concept is often subject to misinterpretation or manipulation which leads to semantic aberration of its verbal representations and, finally, to a communicative bump. The analysis of some examples used in both Russian and English discourse give some ideas on ways of disambiguation.
