NORMATIVE AND EVALUATIVE IN THE CONCEPT BEST

Abstract:  The world mapping reflected in the concept “BEST” and the way it is actualized in the English language testifies to the coexistence in it of the categories of Norm and Evaluation. The subject of evaluation is at the same time the carrier of the norm or standard. The base of evaluation is at the same time the norm or standard and the object of evaluation is comрared with a certain norm model to find out if it is adequate to it. The analysis of the functional-semantic field of the concept “BEST” in the texts about sport and show business reveals that it mainly actualizes the category of norm while the category of evaluation is secondary for it.
