SYMBOL OF SERPENT FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF COGNITIVE LINGUISTICS

Abstract: 
The paper deals with the problem of specific nature of the serpent symbol in the English language. Symbol is considered as a phenomenon that does not correspond to a definite, concrete content of consciousness. The studied diversity of meanings reveal that the symbol of serpent is one of the most complicated symbols the British have ever had in their language and culture.
