ARCHETYPAL IMAGE OF ‘BOND’ IN METAPHORIZATION OF PEOPLE’S INTERACTION

Abstract:  The article deals with the archetypal image of “bond” in Russian communicative consciousness which serves as a ground for a basic cognitive scheme “subject – bonding object – subject”. The result of this scheme is a conceptual metaphor RELATIONSHIP IS A BOND in the Russian mind. The features of the scheme, which function in different variants of the basic metaphor: BOND IS UNITY, BOND IS DEPENDENCE and BOND IS A MYSTIC FORCE are explored in the article. The author provides examples of trite metaphors and set expressions as well as various discursive practices.
