COGNITIVE MODELING OF THE PROCESS OF METAPHORICAL CHOICE

COGNITIVE MODELING OF THE PROCESS OF METAPHORICAL CHOICE

Author:  S. A. Pankratova

Abstract:  Cognitive modeling of the metaphoric process is based on differentiation of various types of conceptual metaphor (diaphora), cognitive models and complex image schemes, which are analyzed from the point of view of their form, lexical expression, logical coherence, function, type of metaphorized features, predication type, 'presumption of truthfulness'. The aim of the cognitive modeling is to describe this process as a systematic predication or co-placing of semantic spheres. The result of cognitive modeling is manifested in the effects of double vision, imaginary vision and persuasiveness. As a result we come to conclusion that diaphora is a referential c-placing of discreet images, accompanied by double actualization of both direct and indirect meaning.

Keywords:  metaphor, epiphora, diaphora, double metaphor, contradictory metaphor, conceptualization
