Abstract: This article is devoted to the analysis of the history of appearance, formation, and development of the linguocultural notion dandy in the Russian society. In the process of investigation the peculiarities of the content of the lexeme dandy and the regularities of its evolution in XX-XXI centuries were discovered, the connotations of the meaning of the given lexeme and its synonyms were established. The connection of the political and social changes in the society with the understanding of the notion dandy and the word, standing for it, and with the attitude to it in different historical periods is stated. Different points of view and approaches to the definition of the content of the notion dandy are marked in the given investigation.
