FUNCTIONAL TYPES OF THE CONCEPT HERO REPRESENTED IN PROPER NAMES AND ITS TRANSFORMATION IN THE ENGLISH CULTURE

Abstract:  The article is aimed at the analysis of the key conceptual dominants of the concept HERO in the English speaking world. Character names are presented as the profiles of the main features which construct a hero. These features are clearly represented in the names of the heroes, especially used for the indirect naming purposes. The following characters were analyzed - Batman and Robin, Biggles, Modesty Blaise, Rhett Butler, Byron, Dan Dare, Mr Darcy, Bulldog Brummond, Flash Gordon, Errol Flynn, Indiana Jones, Lancelot, Lawrence of Arabia, Lochinvar, Captain Marvel, Ar-nold Schwarzenegger, Siegfried, Luke Skywalker, Superman, John Wyane.
