COGNITIVE AND SEMANTIC VARIATION OF ADJECTIVES

Abstract:  The article is devoted to such a feature of adjectives as their discursive semantic variation re-flecting the cognitive variation of their conceptual structure. Special attention is paid to the differ-ences in semantic derivation and discursive semantic variation. The latter process helps clarifying the generalized (lexicographically reduced) meaning of the adjective. The result of semantic derivation is the appearance of its metaphoric and metonymic meanings.
