METARREPRESENTATIONS ON SOCIOPOLITICAL DISCUSSION: SPIN AND PREVENTIVE JUSTIFICATION

Author:  Troshchenkova E.V.

Abstract:  The article discusses the role of metarepresentation of other participants in the sociopolitical discussion. The analysis shows that it strongly influences manipulation strategies and preventive justifications. In some cases commenters join in the strategies suggested by the journalists and develop them even further, while other commenters may re-spin the situation for their own benefits, using the weaknesses their opponents have created by their own manipulation.

Keywords:  metarepresentation, spin, manipulation, preventive justification, sociopolitical discourse
