Abstract

This article deals with ethnocultural features of the essays written by contem-porary British authors. The basic cultural markers of the essays are the names of the key concepts of the English culture and allusions to the precedent texts. A significant degree of cultural markedness of the essayistic discourse is achieved with the help of the lexical units charged with ethnocultural connotation functioning either as a tenor or as a vehicle of genuine imagery, as well as their presence in the strong position of the texts.

Keywords:  tropes, cultural concept, cultural markers, ethnocultural peculiarity, essayistic discourse
