THE EFFECT OF COGNITIVE ENTRENCHMENT ON LEXICAL SELECTION: A PROBABILISTIC ANALYSIS OF SEMANTIC SPEECH ERRORS

Abstract: 
A corpus-based study of semantic speech errors suggests that the degree or cognitive entrenchment, assumed to be a mental correlate of word frequency and the age of acquisition, plays a crucial role throughout the lexical retrieval process including the stage of lemma retrieval.
