Abstract:
The paper discusses correlation between the process of categorization and linguistic nomination. Cases of non-trivial nomination and pragmatic reasons for choosing an unusual name are discussed. Non-trivial nomination serves a pragmatic signal of implicit information. One possible interpretation of this implicit information is irony. Ironic nomination allows the speaker to express negative stance and highlight the gap between the real-life situation and the existing norm.
