MECHANISMS OF FOCUSING AND DEFOCUSING: CREATING FIGURATIVE MEANINGS OF MYTHOLOGEMES

Abstract: 
This paper studies general and particular questions of focusing and defocusing mechanisms. The study of different cognitive phenomena such as figure, ground, dominant is presented. The analysis of focusing and defocusing processes, manifesting themselves in the process of forming figurative meanings, is conducted on the basis of the Greek mythologemes, functioning in the English language.
