ONYMS AS CONCEPTUAL BLENDING

Abstract: 
Linguistic and cognitive aspects of onyms are discussed in the article. The language lexical units and their cognitive meanings as conceptual blending are described. The mechanisms of semantic derivation and migration of proper names to the class of common names are shown. The investigation proves the creative character of nomination process. Sociological, linguistic and etymological factors are taken into account.
