Abstract:
The article touches upon the problem of the role of adjectival metonymy in characterization of a person. Metonymy is viewed as a cognitive mechanism resulting in representation of one concept or the whole conceptual structure by means of another. Characterization of a person can be realized through referring to certain thematic domains metonymically connected with one overall conceptual domain “PERSON”.
