THE MAIN TENDENCIES IN THE SEMANTIC DEVELOPMENT OF THE ENGLISH RELATIVE ADJECTIVES

Abstract:  The article deals with the diachronic analysis of the development of the semantic structures of the English relative adjectives starting with the Old English period up to the Modern English. A wide development of the semantic structures is noted in the Middle English period and a certain decrease in the usage of relative adjectives is evident due to the active employment of noun attribute constructions.
