Abstract: The article deals with the ideological aspect of the discourse in the light of the theory of the ideologems. The paper focuses upon the media discourse with media texts as its discrete elements. The purpose of the research is the analysis of the methods of manipulation of public consciousness in the American mass media with the use of the ideologem “Western values” as a tool of influence.
