MONEY AND THE RUSSIAN CULTURE (A HISTORICAL AND ETYMOLOGICAL STUDY)

Abstract: 
The paper deals with the origins of general names of money and of particular names of some monetary units; all the motivations are considered. The attention is paid to the significant role of money as an important semiotic system and to the attitude to money and wealth/ poverty in the Russian worldview.
