CULTURAL CONNOTATIONS IN THE MEANING OF THE ENGLISH LEXEME MIDDLE CLASS

Abstract: 
Using the data from lexicographic sources and two English language corpora, the article explores the interpretative potential of the English lexeme ‘middle class’. A number of culture-specific characteristics are identified that make up the connotative component of the lexeme’s meaning and are expressed in evaluative contexts.
