Abstract:  The article presents an idea that teaching and learning a foreign language involves context-aware saliency: saliency selection, saliency classification, saliency evaluation. We call for introducing sociocognitive appropriateness into language teaching and learning theory as well as comparison as a fruitful tool and an advantage that allows a specific focus to be detected with regard to languages.
