Abstract: The article deals with the riddle semantic structure and the analysis of riddle decoding by deep introspection. With the issue of verbalized and non-verbalized knowledge demarcation in the background, the mental operations aimed at the solution of the riddle are reconstructed in the mind of the person solving the riddle. The reconstruction of the process of riddle decoding is illustrated using the examples of the riddles of the Russian traditional culture. The cognitive operators are identified by means of the examples provided.
