Abstract:  The article explores some headlines in cognitive science concerning the problem of defining the boundaries of human cognitive system. Analyzing three conceptions – cognitive autonomy, heteronomy and cognitive ecology – we intend to see how they influence cognitive linguistics. We are particularly interested in boundary lines they superpose upon the crucial methodological notion such as unit of linguistic analysis within cognitive paradigm.
