Abstract: The idea of multimodality of oral communication refines and enriches the theory and practice of discourse analysis. Taking into account the visual channel of communication involves considering the gestures that accompany spoken speech. Several examples demonstrate the use of the tools and procedures of corpus analysis for gestural linguistics in terms of discourse studies.
