SOURCES OF METAPHORIC TRANSPOSITION (ON THE MATERIAL OF GERMAN NOUNS)

Author:  M.N. Sidorenko

Abstract
This article focuses on the description of the metaphoric potential of German nouns. The lexical system of a language has a nucleus of metaphoric transposition sources that embodies lexical units with highest metaphoric potential. There is to some degree an overlap between cognitive grounds of central metaphor sources. It helps to develop the variety of nominative resources of the German language. Moreover, the fact that the metaphors make explicit the similar types of knowledge in word meaning indicates the existence of non-taxonomic lexical classes in the language.

Keywords:  metaphor, metaphoric transposition, cognitive grounds, metaphoric potential, non-taxonomic classes
