ON INTERACTION OF COGNITIVE AND LANGUAGE STRUCTURES

Abstract: 
The paper deals with a clash between postulated cognitive and language structures and biosemiotic approach. The importance of heuristic method is discussed. Descriptions of mental structures and their functions are generally based on various assumptions which, however, seem to deal with abstractions as if they were entities. That can be avoided if emphasis is placed on observations of communicative behavior rather than speculations as methods of research. It is suggested that the processes under study be simulated on a model of an individual cognizing speaker. It is argued that the above postulate cannot be dispensed with unless heuristic behavior of an individual is integrated with the research agenda.
