METONYMY AS A BASIS OF PROTOTYPE EFFECTS IN GENDER CATEGORIZATION

Abstract: 
The paper deals with the problems of gender categorization. Particularly, the role of metonymy in prototype appearance effects is analyzed. It is pointed out that among other types of metonymic models (typical examples, ideals, paragons, submodels) the role of gender stereotypes in gender categorization is of particular interest.
