Abstract:
The object of this study is compound sentences that contain two succeeding adverbial clauses the second of which could or could not be regarded as part of the first one, so there seems to be a basic case of ambiguity. It will be shown, however, that a more detailed description of the adverbial clauses leading up to a classification into two different groups reduces drastically the number of possible ambiguities –
a useful result for the construction of a corresponding parse.
