SOURCES OF IMPLICIT MOTIVATION OF FRENCH LEXICAL SIGNS

Author:  А. E. Lupina

Abstract
The paper sets up to establish sources of implicit motivation of lexical signs in French. Extralinguistic and linguistic sources are revealed, the former being of cultural and historic character. The latter is due to particularities of the development of lexico-semantic system: implicitly motivated signs go back to Latin, Francisc and Gallic etymons. It is pointed out that the study of the implicit motivation contributes to cognitive conceptology as it may supply ethnocultural information.

Keywords:  implicit motivation, synchronic/diachronic, cognitive aspect of nomination conceptology
