ON THE PROBLEM OF THE EVALUATION POTENTIAL OF LEXICAL CATEGORIES IN MODERN ENGLISH

Abstract: 
The article touches upon the problem of evaluative senses developed by lexical categories in English. The system of evaluative senses is viewed as evaluation potential and predetermined by the interpretative function of human consciousness. Metaphor and metonymy are considered as cognitive models producing derivative meanings and characterizing the evaluation potential of lexico-semantic classes and groups.
