Abstract:  The semiogenetic process closely related to conceptualization and categorization originates from sound-iconic meanings that are bundled in three anthropocentric do-mains: 1) buccal, 2) manual, 3) onomatopoeic. The buccal sphere of sign production seems to have the priority in this process being the most convenient and simple for the formation of mimetic schemas. The aspects of buccal activities provide the grounds for synesthetic shifts to manual activities and to different manifestations of external reality.

Keywords:  sound-iconicity, phono-semantic space, categorization, conceptualization, synesthesia, Proto-Indo-European.
