Abstract: The paper analyzes conceptual metaphors as dynamic conceptual structures with variable conceptual constituents capable of rearranging the structure of the concept bringing about a change in its conceptual profile. The anthropocentric factor – the position of the observer – helps to produce new focuses in the conceptual set-up of the metaphor which results in the formation of its conceptual subtypes in the language system. The resultant metaphoric subtypes serve as models to produce contexts based on metaphoric representations of different kinds.
Keywords: metaphorical concept; metaphoric mapping; focusing; position of the observer; anthropocentrism; conceptual structures; metaphoric subtypes; context construal.
