Abstract: In the article, by the term 'interpretation' the author means a cognitive process which leads to the formation of individual concepts representing objects of reality. The author argues that interpretation is based on our cognitive ability to perceive the world around as its reflection and as an individual attitude to the reflected reality. Besides, in communication we use interpretive knowledge conveyed by the semantics of words. In this respect, characteristics and levels of interpretation in various types of knowledge receive a detailed consideration.
