MECHANISM OF COGNITIVE DISSONANCE IN INTERNET-MEME AS AN EXAMPLE OF MULTI MODAL DISCOURSE IN COMPUTER- MEDIATED COMMUNICATION

Abstract:  The article dwells upon at the mechanism of cognitive dissonance in internet memes which are an original type of multimodal discourse in computer-mediated communication. Cognitive dissonance occurs rather frequently in internet memes and can be triggered not only by verbal and visual components separately, but also by both of them simultaneously. High incidence of cognitive dissonance in internet memes can be explained by the deep sense internet memes express and by their complex semiotic structure causes higher requirements to the recipients of internet memes in terms of decoding the meaning of internet memes.
