Abstract: This paper presents the close relationship between society, language and culture. The author examines the «Empire» («Reich») as a concept, examines the evolution and etymology of the word and reveals its conceptual signs, which gives an idea of the picture of the world of the German ethnic group during the Reformation and the Renaissance, focusing on the formulation of the idea of universal empire, which is the basis confessional unity.
