WORLD - KNOWLEDGE - DISCOURSE: TOWARDS TWO LEVELS OF REPRESENTATION

Author:  V. I. Zabotkina

Abstract:  The paper concentrates on reality-knowledge-discourse interface. We build on two strands: (a) new interdisciplinary model of generation and transfer of knowledge and (b) the specifics of interdisciplinary discourse which is heterorarchical, heterogeneous and defined by social context. We argue that interdisciplinary discourse is a means of generation and transfer of integrated knowledge. We come to the conclusion that there is a certain correlation between reality and its representation the structures of knowledge, on the one hand, and between the latter and the structures of interdisciplinary discourse, on the other hand.

Keywords:  interdisciplinary academic discourse, integrated knowledge, culture-specific mental models, representation
