THE FREQUENCY EFFECT IN LANGUAGE PRODUCTION

THE FREQUENCY EFFECT IN LANGUAGE PRODUCTION

Author:  S.I. Gorokhova

Abstract:  Errors in spontaneously produced Russian speech were analyzed for target and error frequencies. The results suggest that frequency of linguistic units is relevant throughout the process of spoken language production, and that the degree of entrenchment of linguistic units may be predictive of speech errors.

Keywords:  speech errors; entrenchment; frequency; phonological substitutions; semantic substitutions; substitutions of inflected word forms.
