GENRE IDENTIFICATION

GENRE IDENTIFICATION

Author:  V.A. Tyryguina

Abstract:  Wide amplitude of linguistic variation within texts assigned to one and the same genre causes difficulties in their identification and delimitation. Those difficulties are due to the empiric nature of genres, brought to life by needs lying beyond the language. The paper considers four entities, which are responsible for complexity of genre as a linguistic phenomenon. It is an integrated approach to interpretation of genres that is being made in it.

Keywords:  genre identification, convention, variables of communication, genre concept, genre prototype, linguistic presentation, variation, integrated approach.
