Abstract: The article provides a comparative analyses of general and specific characteristics of Lezghin and English underlying structures on the basis of compound words, as well as defines cognitive universals lying in the start of transfer of meaning from deep into surface. It also contains thematic classification of models of underlying structures in word-formation in English and Lezghin.
