Abstract: The article views the variability potential of the French gastronomic metaphor as a version of the conceptual one. The variability of the metaphor under study is revealed on the level of word-formation as well as in its ability to form synonymic rows by way of substitution of core "gastronomic" elements. This peculiarity of the French gastronomic metaphor broadens its language functioning sphere and indicates its exceptional role in the formation of the French linguistic view of the world.
Keywords: linguistic view of the world, cognitive modeling of the world, conceptual metaphor, variability, word-formation potential, synonymic rows, cognitive support.
