Abstract: The article examines interpretation as a cognitive process that determines the metaphorical interpretation of emotions as an active substance. Lexical-semantic groups of verbs, which are used with the name of emotions, functioning in a sentence-statement as a subject-agent, are revealed. The author describes the changes in the conceptual structure, represented by verb, that make possible such understanding of emotions.
