Abstract: The fundamental opposition “Self - Other” is viewed in the article via its application to name studies and, in particular, to the notion of anthroponymic linguistic personality. The issues of referential features of given names, the perception of “the self” and “the other” in a name, and their impact on the development of self-identity are explored and illustrated.
