LANGUAGE, LANGUAGES AND LANGUAGING – ON THE OBJECT(S) OF DESCRIPTION OF LINGUISTICS

Author:  Peter Harder

Affiliation:  University of Copenhagen

Abstract:  The article reassesses some of the basic assumptions in structural linguistics, focusing on the theoretical concepts. It is argued that new developments in linguistics cannot radically depart from traditional linguistic conceptualizations as the latter have their relative merits.

Keywords:  language, languages, competency, languaging, object of linguistic description.
