Abstract: The problem of wide, contextually dependent meaning (euresemy) is analyzed in the paper, and description of meanings of adjective GREAT is used as an example to explain the problem. English adjective GREAT connotes with a number of referents which can be clustered into thematic groups. Changeability of meanings, variety of referents, versatility of dependent thematic groups may be the reason to classify adjective GREAT as the one with wide/euresemic meaning.
