CONCEPT AS DIACHRONIC PHENOMENON

Abstract:  The currently used methods of conceptual analysis are not sufficiently effective for detecting diachronic semantics of linguistic units or presenting a concept in evolution. To solve this problem, it is suggested to involve the tools of modern comparative linguistics based on integrative method. The results of interaction between the two linguistic approaches at the level of diachronic analysis methods is demonstrated using the example of reconstructing the formation and development of the concept “cleanliness” in German and English.
