Abstract:  The article explores and substantiates the notion of conceptual space shared by the participants of medical communication. It draws both from the patient’s naïve worldview and the doctor’s scientific worldview which overlap and interwork during doctor-patient encounters. Constructing a shared conceptual space involves adequate interpretation of the patient’s complaints by the doctor as well as comprehension of medical concepts by the patient.

Keywords:  conceptual space, medical communication, conceptual framework, naïve and scientific medical worldview
