Abstract:  This article deals with the metaphor from the cognitive point of view in the light of the search of lexical invariants of ambiguous words. It is shown that the metaphor is a leading tool for finding semantic components underlying invariant meaning and bonding all the lexical-semantic variants of a polysemous word.

Keywords:  metaphor, lexical invariant, semantic components, nominative-non-derivative meaning
