PRECEDENT TEXT CHOICE IN «DORMANT» LANGUAGE POETRY AS A MECHANISM OF INTERPRETATION (based on the Hebrew poetry of XVIII–XIX centuries)

Abstract: 

The paper deals with a mechanism of interpretation that is used when a poetic text in a “dormant” language is composed (we call “dormant” a high-status language which is not used in oral communication). Writing a poem in a “dormant” language is approached to as a communicative act, when the co-communicators are the previous and the further poetic tradition and the poet’s contemporaries. The choice of language tools and variants is first of all the precedent text choice. Our speculations are based on the Hebrew poetry of XVIII–XIX centuries. Two interpretative strategies are considered and compared: those of the Haskalah (Hebrew enlightenment) and of the Tkhiyah (post-enlightenment poetic movement).
