Abstract

The article examines phonosemantic associations in poetry in the light of the conceptual integration theory. It is shown that the semantic density of poetic speech can be explained by diverse links of the integrated concepts to the array of mental spaces in the network. The article also describes the linguistic factors setting the object and strength of attention in the process of phonosemantic interaction.

Keywords:  paronymy, paronomasia, conceptual integration, background cognition, metonymic tightening, focus of attention, linguistic knowledge
