Abstract
This paper is devoted to the research of white and black colours from semiotic and cognitive linguistics perspective. The paper presents semiotic status of these colours, degree of conventionality of their semantics in terms of sensor channel of perceiving these signs. The study reveals potential of white and black in creation of elementary signs as well as their role of forming semiotic continuum.
