Abstract
This paper deals with the study of and proposes an explanation of different aspects of metaphoric modeling as a cognitive method of indirect knowledge representation which helps to establish close links between mental models and their linguistic correlates. This cognitive process is a vivid manifestation of the creative work of the mind. A special emphasis is made on revealing a cognitive basis for regular metaphoric shifts within the basic ontological domain ‘Natural Space objects’ as a part of the English language world view.
